Dickens Unit

For December the class will be reading Dickens' "A Christmas Carol " and then creating a technology artifact that will involve many English IV Standards.  The unit also will be meeting the National Educational Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for students that our school district is promoting.  The technology unit will finish up sometime in January after we return from break.

Students: Reminder - If you want to work on your project during lunch please feel free to do so, as I will be in my room most of the time.  Also, I will write passes for homeroom for you to come and work in my room or in the media center to use their computers for editing.  On Thursdays after school I am in my room for additional help.  If you have any production problems that can't be addressed in class I will be happy to help you during lunch, homeroom, or after school.  If needed, I can arrange to work with you after school. I am here to help you succeed.  You will find many ways in your professional life to utilize the technology standards offered in this unit.  I hope you will take this opportunity to create something special.

Students who create a superior video product may be chosen to go to the district's Techonology Fair where they can win a Technology Award and prizes.

For the months of January and February we are read the classic British novel
To Sir With Love" which contains important themes where learning, maturity, racism, and hope are explored.  This autobiography deals with social and racial issues in a poor inner city school of mostly lower class whites shortly after World War Two.

My students will also be view the 1967 film "To Sir, With Love" starring Sidney Poitier.  The film is credited with helping to break down stereotypes and promote the cause of Civil Rights during the turbulent 1960's.
